One of my favorite things about the Tremors franchise is that the graboids are an ever evolving creatures. From the original Graboids to Shriekers all the way to Ass-blasters. Tremors 6 will be continuing that evolution.
Director Don Michael Paul recently revealed a few hints on Facebook, including that fans might “get an icy glimpse of a Dirt Devil as you’ve never seen it before!!!!” We have also learned that the Graboids will be modified, but who is behind it?
In Tremors 6, Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) and his son Travis Welker (Jamie Kennedy) find themselves up to their ears in Graboids and Ass-Blasters when they head to Canada to investigate a series of deadly giant-worm attacks. Arriving at a remote research facility in the arctic tundra, Burt begins to suspect that Graboids are secretly being weaponized, but before he can prove his theory, he is sidelined by Graboid venom. With just 48 hours to live, the only hope is to create an antidote from fresh venom — but to do that, someone will have to figure out how to milk a Graboid!”
Don Michael Paul returns to direct this installment, based on the script by Tremors 5 writer John Whelpley. Only three other cast members besides Kennedy and Gross have officially been announced so far, Tanya van Graan (Death Race: Inferno), Rob van Vuuren (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), and Greg Kriek (Blood and Glory).
Last week we shared the first image from Tremors 6. In the photo Jamie Kennedy’s character is inside of a Graboid. Yuck.
Michael Gross, who plays gun nut Burt Gummer mentioned on his Facebook page on March 10th that his wife had joined him for the final week of filming, meaning that filming for the sequel has now wrapped.
There is one other piece of interesting Tremors news.
On the 17th Gross was enroute home from South Africa with a few bullets in his pocket that he kept from the set as souvenirs. But it didn’t go very well once he got to the airport. It happens to the best of us.
These two spent shell casings—one a 9mm and the other a .223—were from Burt Gummer’s stash in Tremors 6. I tossed them in my carry-on as “souvenirs” but, passing though Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on my way home from South Africa, I was escorted to the airport police station where my “brass” was confiscated. The police were professional and polite, but in light of Donald J. Trump’s controversial #muslimban, I had to wonder if the United Arab Emirates would henceforth be monitoring ME! #embarassed #internationalincident #mymistake“
Stay tuned for more on Tremors 6.
