Brian Henson’s long gestating dark comedy The Happytime Murders is finally moving forward with funny lady Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters) attached to both star and produce.
The R-rated film is set to begin filming in August in Los Angeles and takes place in a world were humans live alongside puppets. In the movie two detectives, one human, one puppet, are forced to work together to solve the brutal murder of a member of the cast of “The Happytime Gang”, a popular show featuring puppets. The first concept art has already been unveiled.

When a really good script combines puppet strippers, Los Angeles’ underbelly and comedy, it’s like my fever dream has finally come true.” McCarthy said.
Henson will direct from the script penned by Todd Berger and revised by Erich and John Hoeber, and McCarthy, based on the story by Todd Berger and Dee Robertson.
The Happytime Murders will be produced by The Jim Henson Company’s On The Day Productions and STXFilms. McCarthy will produce along with Brian Henson, Jeffrey Hayes, and Ben Falcone. John W. Hyde and Lisa Henson will serve as executive producers.
