If you were a kid in the 1990’s, you probably had a few nightmares thanks to Nicolas Roeg‘s adaptation of The Witches, Jim Henson’s final film.
Fast forward thirty years to today…Robert Zemeckis is currently in final negotiations with Warner Bros. to helm the new adaptation of that same 1973 novel by Roald Dahl.
Zemeckis will also be penning the script along with his partner Jack Rapke. The two will be producing under their ImageMovers banner.
Here’s the kicker, Guillermo del Toro will also be serving as producer along with Alfonso Cuaron, Variety reports.
The film follows a seven-year-old boy who has a run-in with real witches. Zemeckis‘ version will more closely mirror the original story than the 1990 movie starring Angelica Huston. It will also be a darker tale.
