Daniel XIII; the result of an arcane ritual involving a King Diamond album, a box of Count Chocula, and a copy of Swank magazine, is a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, artist, and reviewer of fright flicks…Who hates ya baby?

Family of Fear focuses on a the family run haunt attraction Arx Mortis; a horror house USA Today rated as one of the best in the country…until it all fell to a steamin’ pile of not-so-sinister shit. To remedy that, these freaky folks go through quite an overhaul including; actor training, expanding the size of the attraction, and ending the cliques that made new recruits to the revoltin’ ranks feel un-welcome. Will Arx Mortis regain it’s legendary status in the horror biz, or has the death knell sounded?
With an emphasis both on the behind the scenes preparation and managing of the haunted attraction, as well as the wildly disparate folks, many of them social outcasts who have found a sense of family at Arx Mortis, that are attracted to acting in the haunt, Family of Fear is an absolutely thoroughly engaging documentary that not only makes you root for the folks that own the haunted house to succeed, but you truly want the actors appearing in it to overcome their struggles and scare the shit out of people in the process! Another aspect of this pic that appealed to your’s cruelly was the “fly on the wall” style view of the various creature make-ups being created followed through to their appearance in the actual attraction itself…not to mention the hazards of unruly customers that they at times have to contend with.
If you have any interest in haunt attractions, the sense of belonging and creativity the horror biz can provide, or just love a great underdog story, then Family of Fear will be a flick worth slappin’ your eerie eyeballs on with the most haunted of haste!
