Stacey Osei-Kuffour‘s name should sound familiar, she’s the writer of HBO’s “Watchmen” series and she has just signed on to pen the script for Marvel’s new Blade movie and will hold the title of the first black female scribe to write a Marvel movie, THR reports. The film was first announced at 2019’s Comic-Con and been searching for a writer since.
Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Green Book) is set to star as the “daywalker” Blade, who was originally played by Wesley Snipes. The character made its first appearance in 1973’s comic Tomb of Dracula No. 10 and has since become a cult favorite. Blade was born part vampire after his pregnant mother bitten by a vampire while he was still in the womb.
Besides writing for “Watchmen,” Oslei-Kuffour earned Emmy nominations for her work on Hulu’s comedy series “Pen15.” She also served as part of the writing team for Amazon’s hit Nazi-hunting series “Hunters” that stars Al Pacino.
