The release date for the highly anticipated horror Spiral: From the Book of Saw has unfortunately been changed several times thanks to the pandemic, including one delay that put the release back nearly a year. Well, it’s changed once again, this time it’s been moved up! Lionsgate has moved the theatrical release from May 21st to Mat 14th!

Chris Rock stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson (Snakes on A Plane) and Max Minghella (“The Handmaid’s Tale), as well as executive produces the movie based on his idea. The Saw’s franchise’s Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV) returned to direct.

In Spiral, a sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

During our interview with Bousman, we asked what fans of the Saw franchise can expect and he had this to say:

You’ve got Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson who are powerhouses. It’s intense and it’s great! It’s scary and it’s a thriller. What I love about it the most is that I think it will reinvent the franchise. It’s not the same movie you’ve seen eight times before thanks to Chris Rock who has been overseeing it. It has all of the things you love about Saw, but taking them in a new direction.

Marl Burg and Oren Kohls return to produce. Pete Goldfinger and Jigsaw’s Josh Stolberg penned the film which is executive produced by Rock, Daniel Heffner, and the original creators of the franchise, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

While the early release should be enough to excite fans, we’ve also got a new teaser to share with you. Check it out.
