The Evil Dead franchise is back! Variety is reporting that Evil Dead Rise is in the works at New Line Cinema with Sam Raimi, the franchise’s creator, and its groovy star, Bruce Campbell, will be executive producing the new franchise installment written and directed by Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin.
Sadly, Campbell’s iconic character Ash Williams will not be returning. This time Alyssa Sutherland (“Vikings”) and Lily Sullivan (Mental) will lead the cast of the sequel.
Evil Dead Rise moves from the woods to the city, and centers on “two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.”
At its core, Evil Dead is about ordinary people overcoming extraordinarily terrifying situations. I can’t wait for Alyssa and Lily to fill the blood-soaked shoes of those who have come before them and carry on that tradition.” Campbell says.
The franchise began with 1981’s beloved The Evil Dead, followed by 1987’s Evil Dead II, and then Army of Darkness released in 1993. Sony’s Evil Dead reboot was next, followed by the hilarious Starz 2015 series “Ash vs Evil Dead.”
Evil Dead Rise will be skipping theaters and will be heading straight to HBO Max. production in New Zealand next month. As soon as a release date is announced, we’ll let you know,
