When it comes to classic horror, you don’t get much more iconic than writer-director Sam Raimi’s 1981 film The Evil Dead, which has spawned sequels, a reboot, a TV series, and a game franchise. This October the cherished film is returning to theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
In addition to the part horror, part comedy film’s theatrical return, attendees will be treated to an exclusive introduction from star Bruce Campbell, who portrayed the franchise’s iconic lead character, Ashley “Ash” Williams.
In the first installment of Raimi’s famed original Evil Dead trilogy, Ash (Campbell), his girlfriend Linda (Baker), his sister Cheryl (Sandweiss), and couple Scotty (Delrich) and Shelly (York), drive to a remote cabin in the woods for a fun getaway. While there, they find the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (aka “The Book of the Dead”), an ancient tome whose text reawakens the dead when read out loud. After unintentionally releasing a flood of evil, the five friends must fight for their lives or become possessed.
The 40th-anniversary event is presented in cinemas by Fathom Events and Grindhouse Releasing with a cast featuring Campbell, Betsy Baker, Ellen Sandweiss, Hal Delrich, and Sarah York, and opens theaters nationwide on Thursday, October 7th at 7:30 p.m. (local time). Tickets are available for purchase at www.fathomevents.comand through participating cinemas’ box offices. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change). Please contact your local theater for individual safety precautions.
