Back in 2017, Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 was released, now a sequel is coming to the small screen with a live-action series titled “Blade Runner 2099” from Amazon.
Deadline is reporting that Ridley Scott, who directed the original 1982 film, is executive producing along with Silka Luisa (“Shining Girls”) who is also writing the series.
Deadline states, “The project, which would mark the first Blade Runner live-action series, is in priority development at Amazon Studios, which is fast-tracking scripts and eyeing potential production dates. Staffing is currently underway for writers to join a room. Scott may direct if the series moves forward, sources said.”
In Scott’s original movie, starring Harrison Ford, “A blade runner must pursue and terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space, and have returned to Earth to find their creator.”
Harrison Ford returned for Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 and stars along with Ryan Gosling. In the film, “Young Blade Runner K’s discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who’s been missing for thirty years.”
“Blade Runner 2099” is from Alcon Entertainment, Amazon Studios, and Scott Free. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
