This year’s Scream sequel has brought in $140 million at box offices worldwide, so it’s no surprise that another sequel has already been greenlit with franchise star Courtney Cox already signed on to reprise her role as reporter Gale Weathers after narrowly surviving the sequel which has just landed on Paramount + and Prime Video.
Cox confirmed the news during an interview with “Just for Variety,” Marc Malkin’s podcast while promoting her new horror-comedy series “Shining Vale“. Malik asked her if would be returning and she stated, “I got the script yesterday. And I haven’t read it yet. I just got it, and I’m so used to getting, you know, Shining Vale scripts, which are 26 pages, and I’m, ‘Whoah, I’ve got to read a script.’ I’m excited to read it.” Cox also said that the movie will likely begin filming this June in Canada.
Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott will likely be returning as well, Collider reports. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Scream‘s (2022) stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega return as well, seeing their popularity. Of curse, David Arquette‘s Dewy will not be back after sadly being killed in this year’s movie.
The next Scream sequel’s release date has already been announced as March 31, 2023. The news came via social media on Friday.
“Shining Vale” centers on a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town, not knowing their new home was the site of terrible atrocities. But no one seems to notice except for Pat, who’s convinced she’s either depressed or possessed— turns out, the symptoms are exactly the same.
The eight-episode first season is from Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan. It also stars Greg Kinnear as Pat’s sweet husband, Terry; Mira Sorvino plays the role of Rosemary, Pat’s alter ego; Gus Birney and Dylan Gage play Pat and Terry’s kids. You can learn more here.
