Daniel XIII; the result of an arcane ritual involving a King Diamond album, a box of Count Chocula, and a copy of Swank magazine, is a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, artist, and reviewer of fright flicks…Who hates ya baby?

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.

Halloween… seems like a damn solid time to lock my putrid peepers on some new Doo!

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! concerns the misadventures of Coco Diablo, a fashion designer who just so happened to be responsible for all of those freaky-fab monster suits all of those no-goodniks don to commit crimes that are always foiled by the super-sluthin’ of Mystery Inc.

Speaking of Fred, Velma, Shaggy, Scooby, and Daphne, they are currently a lil’ light on work since the one that provides the monsters of the mysteries they are avowed to solve is cooling her jets behind bars… and you can bet things are going to get even more complicated since our gal Velma has a serious case of the horny’s for that fiendish fashion designer!

This results in Fred becoming depressed, Daphne searching her heart to find her role within Mystery Inc., and Shaggy and Scooby pining for Halloween (I mean being unemployed isn’t going to stop those goofy gluttons from craving bucket upon bucket of sickenly sweet treats)… all while Velma waxes gooey-eyed for her new crush!

Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! Is a great addition to the prolific pantheon of dog-centric mysteries that’s been goin’ strong since Hanna-Barbera Productions introduced Scoob and the gand all the way back in 1969… and while the times sure have a-changed since then this is still pure Scooby-Doo fun through and through!

While the characters remain the same as always at their core, there’s layers to be found here… while the humor remains strong (minus a few corny bombs here and there) we see our heroes explore new dimensions to their personalities that keeps things modern and fresh for the adults while still providing the antics and fun the series is known for.

Speaking of series traditions, long-time series vets once again provide the voices of our heroes with Frank Welker providing both Fred and Scooby’s voices (as always), Grey Griffin as Daphne, the ever-awesome Matthew Lillard as Shaggy (a role he’s played off and on… mostly on since he portrayed the character in 2002’s live-action Scooby-Doo film (as well as it’s 2004 sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed), and relative new-comer Kate Micucci as Velma (whom she has voiced in productions dating back to 2019).

Adding to the fun, this DVD also features a collection of three vintage Scooby-Doo episodes to keep the frights and fun flyin’!

Full of spooky fun and surprising character development, Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! Is a true delight for fans of the series young and old and shouldn’t be missed this Samhain season!
