There is no other author that is more prolific than Stephen King, with his works being adapted for more than eighty films and series. We can soon add another to the list. Horror heavy hitter James Wan has signed on to produce the adaptation of King’s short story The Monkey, featured in King’s 1985 collection Skeleton Crew.

Osgood Perkins, behind The Blackcoat’s Daughter, is set to direct the film from the script he wrote. Divergent actor Theo James is set to lead the cast

“In The Monkey, when twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.”

“Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre. He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career, and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life. The Monkey is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic and incredibly marketable conceit. And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.” James Wan states about the adaptation.

The Monkey is produced by JAmes Wan’s Atomic Monster, Automatik Entertainment, Black Bear International, C2 Motion Picture Group, and Stars Collective Films Entertainment Group.

James Wan is one of the biggest names in horror being behind The Conjuring Universe and The Saw franchise, as well as non-horror titles such as Aquaman and Furious 7.

The Monkey has now entered pre-production. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, watch Saw X, executive produced by Wan, now in theaters.
