On October 13, 1972, flight 571, carrying a rugby team and their guests, crashed in the Andes Mountains, leading to one of the most harrowing survival stories in history. This January, Netflix brings this true-life tale to the screen with Society of the Snow, directed by the acclaimed filmmaker J.A. Bayona, known for his chilling films like The Orphanage.

Society of the Snow promises a gripping, emotional experience that plays out amongst stunning views. It stars a talented ensemble cast including Enzo Vogrincic Roldán, Matías Recalt, Agustín Pardella, Tomas Wolf, Diego Vegezzi, Esteban Kukuriczka, and Francisco Romero, as the survivors who must fight for their lives in the brutal and unforgiving environment.

This isn’t the first time the story of the Andes crash survivors has been told on screen. The 1993 film Alive, based on Piers Paul Read’s book of the same name, remains a powerful and moving account of their ordeal. However, Society of the Snow promises to offer a fresh perspective, focusing on the psychological and emotional toll on the survivors.

Set to premiere on Netflix on January 4th, 2024, Society of the Snow is a must-watch for fans of true-life survival stories, heartbreaking thrillers, and harrowing dramas.

In real life, only twenty-nine of the forty-five on board made it out alive. Some were killed during the crash. Some died from environmental issues, including the bitter cold. And seven were never found due to the way the plane broke in half after hitting the mountain.
