Karyna Kudzina’s chilling new film, Harvest, is more than just a horror story. It’s a profoundly personal journey confronting the darkest corners of human nature while celebrating the unwavering spirit of those who dare to defy it.
From Trauma to Triumph:
When Karyna Kudzina’s mother emigrated to the U.S. from Belarus in 2020, she provided her daughter with details of the horrific abuse they both endured when Karyna was just two years old. It was only then that Karyna began to understand the fear and terror that permeated her nightmares since early childhood. Inspired by her mother’s story, in 2022, Karyna wrote Harvest, a chilling tale of horror that uncovers the depths of human darkness while celebrating the resilience of those who dare to defy it.
Unveiling a Chilling Secret:
The film follows Nina (played by Kudzina herself), an undocumented immigrant from Belarus who takes a caregiver job for Luther (Chris LaPanta) in a secluded Upstate New York home. Accompanied by her young daughter, Nina initially finds hope and kindness in this new environment. But everything shifts dramatically when she uncovers Luther’s chilling secret. And she is plunged into a nightmarish fight for survival.
Award-Winning Talent:
Harvest boasts an impressive team behind the camera. Award-winning cinematographer/director Saro Varjabedian takes the helm. Oscar-nominated producer Den Tolmor (Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom) lends his expertise and passion for immigrant narratives. Tolmor’s dedication to Ukraine resonates deeply as he completed the film’s post-production in Kyiv amidst the ongoing war. Capturing both the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the power of artistic expression in the face of adversity.
