Blumhouse Productions, the undisputed architects of cinematic nightmares, are pulling the strings on a sequel to their killer doll breakout M3GAN. Producer Ryan Turek confirmed to Collider that M3GAN 2.0 is officially in development and gearing up to land in theaters in 2025.
”M3GAN 2.0 is underway. We haven’t started shooting or anything like that. We’re aiming towards that January release date that was set,” Turek said, then turning his attention to The Black Phone 2, which is a bit further off. ”And The Black Phone 2, there’s nothing else I can say really in terms of movement.”
While production remains in its early stages, the news sends shivers down the spines of horror fans who witnessed the first film’s terrifyingly sweet chaos. M3GAN, a technologically advanced AI companion, turned from an adorable guardian into a psychopathic protector.
Get ready for another hair-raising chapter in Gemma’s (Allison Williams) journey as she navigates the treacherous waters of single parenthood and cutting-edge tech. Violet McGraw also returns to reprise her role as Cady, the young niece whose vulnerability sparks the chilling events of the first film.
While details on the sequel’s plot remain tightly under wraps, one thing’s clear: M3GAN 2.0 promises to be a chilling dose of technological terror. With the original film praised for its originality, dark humor, and terrifyingly effective villain, the sequel has a high bar to meet. However, Blumhouse’s proven track record of delivering spine-tingling thrills has fans eagerly awaiting the next scream.
Mark your calendars and prepare to face your fears once more. M3GAN 2.0 will invade theaters on January 25, 2025, ready to reignite the debate about artificial intelligence, family bonds, and the line between protection and murderous obsession. Watch for further updates, and brace yourself for another electrifying encounter with the killer doll who redefined “best friend.”
During Turek’s talk, he also mentioned The Black Phone 2, the sequel to the 2023 horror that made waves in the genre. We reported back in December that Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, Incoming), Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies (“Justified”), and Miguel Mora are all set to return for the sequel. Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will be back to produce.
