It’s that time of year again. Some stand out as we look back over the movies released in 2023. Not because they were great but because they were absolutely dreadful. While several horror movies scored multiple nominations, one film stands out above all others this year, and that’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Even though most critics hated it (I’m one of them), genre fans made it a huge success. It brought in over $5 million at box offices and had a budget of just $100,000. The movie’s success has inspired the team to green-light more films and plan to create a whole universe of movies that will ruin your childhood. That includes the newly announced horror movie that turns Disney’s classic Pinnochio into a nightmare.
We also must mention The Exorcist: Believer. From David Gordon Green, the man behind the new Halloween trilogy, came a movie so bad that the director himself abandoned the other two films already planned for the new trilogy. That’s rough. But let’s be honest; it was embarrassing. It doesn’t matter how hard anyone tries; sometimes (most times) there are just sequels/prequels/remakes/reboots that will NEVER stand up to the original. Some films need to be left alone.
The awards:
The Razzies have been roasting the worst in film since 1981. Think of it as a giant raspberry blown at Hollywood’s ego, with a statuette worth less than five bucks (seriously). The Razzies aren’t afraid to call Hollywood out on their bullshit, and for that, we thank them. This year’s award winner will be announced on Saturday, March 9, 2024. We’ll keep you posted.
