Storm King Productions and Eisner-nominated writer Steve Niles are releasing a chilling new graphic novel, The Killing Hole. It is a dark coming-of-age tale steeped in alienation and unexpected consequences.
Set in 1979, The Killing Hole follows two troubled teenagers, Stewart and Peter, both outcasts, who are navigating the harsh realities of adolescence and find solace in a shared disdain for school. Their unlikely friendship becomes a refuge from the suffocating atmosphere of their home lives and the relentless torment of bullies.
Stewart and Peter create a secret sanctuary—an underground bunker where they can escape the world. However, their shared fantasies take a disturbing turn, venturing into dark and ultimately deadly territory.
The Killing Hole delves into the complexities of teenage angst, stripping away the idyllic veneer often portrayed in popular culture. Rooted in the pre-technology era of the late 1970s, the story offers a raw and unsettling exploration of the darkness that can fester beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary lives.
Steve Niles, known for his acclaimed horror works like 30 Days of Night and Mystery Society, crafts a captivating and emotionally charged narrative. Denham’s evocative illustrations perfectly capture the story’s haunting atmosphere, bringing the characters and their descent into darkness to life. The comic is illustrated by Trevor Denham, with colors by Ryan Winn and lettering by Janice Chiang.
Storm King Comics founder Sandy King lauds the graphic novel, praising Niles’ ability to weave a deeply affecting story that transcends the horror genre. King highlights Denham’s artwork, emphasizing how it elevates the narrative and creates a lasting impact on readers.
The Killing Hole will go on pre-order on Storm King Comics’ website beginning July 10th, 2024. Comic bookstores will receive the title on the same date. Retail bookstores will follow on July 23rd. Fans will see the graphic novel showcased at the Storm King Comics booth at San Diego Comic-Con.
