A new Robin Hood movie is on the horizon, but it’s not the story you know. Deadline reports that writer-director Michael Sarnoski, behind the upcoming movie A Quiet Place: Day One, is in the director’s chair for The Death of Robin Hood

The movie is being described as a “reimagining” of the classic tale. This time, we will witness Robin Hood struggling with his past as he finds himself on the brink of death and in the care of a mysterious woman who offers him salvation.

Here’s the thing: there’s a reason a Robin Hood story has caught our attention. Hugh Jackman is set to star as the titular Robin Hood, appearing alongside Jodie Comer (Killing Eve). The news comes as the release of Deadpool and Wolverine approaches, in which Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine.

Ryder Pictures’ Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett are producing, along with Alexander Black and Lyrical Media. Jon Rosenberg, Natalie Sellers, and Rama Gottumkkala will executive produce alongside Jackman.

“This is not the story of Robin Hood we’ve all come to know,” teased Aaron Ryder. “Instead, Michael has crafted something far more grounded and visceral. Thanks to Alexander Black and our friends at Lyrical along with Rama and Michael, the world is going to love seeing Hugh and Jodie together in this epic.”

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” said Sarnoski. “Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

Production is set to begin in February 2025. More casting news and details should surface soon. In the meantime, you can see Hugh Jackman in action in Deadpool and Wolverine, which opens in theaters on July 26, 2024.
