I headed to the theater this past Saturday to watch Deadpool & Wolverine. As I sat laughing, I got a huge surprise I was not expecting: I saw Wesley Snipes walk on screen as his iconic character Blade (pictured). You could hear the audience gasping and breaking out in cheers for the daywalker.
Snipe’s appearance in the movie shattered two Guinness World Records for the star. One was for the longest live-action Marvel character, previously held by his fellow co-star Hugh Jackman, who has long played Wolverine.
Snipes also broke the record for the largest gap in character appearances, appearing 25 years and 240 days after the first Blade movie debuted in 1998. Two sequels followed: Blade II in 2002 and Blade: Trinity in 2004, which also starred Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds (pictured).
As Snipes reclaims the spotlight as Blade, Marvel’s planned reboot starring Mahershala Ali continues languishing in development hell with multiple delays. The latest update came in June, revealing that Mia Goth has been added to its roster and that it has been given a November 2025 release date (we’ll believe it when we see it). The character’s iconic status and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the reboot make Snipes’ cameo all the more satisfying for fans. Wesley Snipes has solidified his legacy as the ultimate daywalker.
Wesley Snipes’ Blade wasn’t the only character to make a cameo. Channing Tatum (Gambit), Jennifer Gardner (Electra), Chris Evans (Johnny Storm), and Henry Cavil (The Cavillrine) were among the classic heroes and villains that appeared in the movie directed by Shawn Levy.
Watch Deadpool and Wolverine now in theaters nationwide.
