The long-awaited movie adaptation of Stephen King‘s beloved horror novel Salem’s Lot is finally coming. Vanity Fair has shared the first batch of images from the movie directed by Gary Dauberman, who is known for his work on IT and The Nun.
Dauberman told Variety, “You could do a very dry version of this movie, but that’s just not my personality,” He continued. “It’s trying to ride that wave’s ups and downs. You’re having fun with it, and then you can have a scare, and then you’re having fun again. Hopefully it feels like a complete ride at the end.”
King himself took to social media earlier this year to speak out on the delay. “I’ve seen the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s quite good. Old-school horror filmmaking: slow build, big payoff. Not sure why WB is holding it back; not like it’s embarrassing or anything.”
Set in 1975, when King’s original novel was published, Salem’s Lot follows author Ben Mears. He returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot. Haunted by a childhood incident, Mears seeks inspiration for his next book. Soon, he discovers that the town is being terrorized by a bloodthirsty vampire and its loyal servant.
The film boasts a talented cast, including Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, and Bill Camp. Dauberman’s creative team also includes seasoned professionals in cinematography, production design, editing, and music.
Previous adaptations of Salem’s Lot have been successful. But this new version promises a fresh take on the classic horror tale. Fans of King’s work and horror movie enthusiasts alike will be eager to see Dauberman’s vision.
Initially set to open in theaters, the movie Salem’s Lot will now bare its fangs on Max this October.
