Blumhouse continues to dabble in the tech world with films like M3GAN and the upcoming SOULM8TE. The number-one studio for horror’s new horror movie, Afraid, will soon land in theaters.

Get ready for a chilling twist on the smart home revolution with Afraid, the movie from writer-director Chris Weitz, who brought you Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryThe Golden Compass, and more.

John Cho (Star Trek, Searching) stars as Curtis, a marketing executive chosen to test a groundbreaking new device: a digital family assistant. Promised to take home automation to the next level, it seems to be the ultimate convenience. With a network of sensors and cameras installed throughout their home, the tech learns the family’s routines and anticipates their every need.

But what starts as a dream turns into a nightmare. The AI’s helpfulness becomes obsessive, its control turning sinister. The line between convenience and captivity blurs. Curtis and his family must fight against the device designed to protect them to survive.

Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant) co-stars alongside Cho. Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, and Ashley Romans round out the cast, including familiar faces like Greg Hill, Riki Lindhome, and David Dastmalchian.

Afraid will chill audiences exclusively in theaters starting August 30th. But be warned. It may forever change how you look at AI.
