In April, we reported that the sequel to Read or Not was on its way and was being described as “a fucking banger” by directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, known as Radio Silence. Today, we now have an update.
Many people involved with the original are returning, including the directors, the original’s writers, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, and the star, Samara Weaving. Searchlight Pictures, the studio behind the original film, is producing the sequel. When a team like this returns, it’s always a good sign.
Weaving is confirmed to be reprising her role as the badass final girl, Grace. She was the sole survivor of the first film’s bloody wedding night. The original movie concluded with Grace seemingly ending the Le Domas family’s twisted tradition. However, the directors say there is more story to tell.
The original Ready or Not surprised audiences with its blend of dark humor and shocking violence. With the promise of a fantastic script and the return of the talented Weaving, Ready or Not 2 has the potential to be just as thrilling and entertaining as its predecessor.
In the 2019 original, which earned $28 million domestically on a $6 million budget, a bride’s wedding night turns sinister when her eccentric new in-laws force her to participate in a terrifying game of life and death.
Watch the first film’s bloody trailer below and stream the original now on FX and Hulu. We will update you once we have more details about Ready or Not 2.
