Pitch Perfect star and Emmy nominee Anna Kendrick makes her directorial debut with the true-crime-inspired serial killer thriller Woman of the Hour. The film premiered on Netflix on the 18th and has become a massive hit. For a second week, it is currently the number one most-viewed film on Netflix. Since its premiere, the film has already surpassed 9 million views.

Kendrick pulls double duty with the film, both directing and starring in it as Sheryl Bradshaw. In the trailer, she sits at a bar with her date, whom she met on “The Dating Game” (Daniel Zovatto). He makes her increasingly uneasy, though she’s not exactly sure why. What she doesn’t know yet is that the man sitting across from her is none other than serial killer Rodney Alcala. It may sound like something from a fictional movie, but it is based on true events. Woman of the Hour aims to entertain and share not only Sheryl’s story but also the stories of Alacala’s victims.

Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Nicolette Robinson (The Affair), Autumn Best (4400), and Kathryn Gallagher (Gossip Girl, Jagged Little Pill) star. Kelley Jakle (Pitch Perfect42) rounds out the cast of Woman of the Hour, which currently boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90%.
