Sony Pictures has announced the release date for The Bone Temple, the next installment of its upcoming 28 Years Later trilogy. The news follows the recent release of the first 28 Years Later trailer.
While few details about The Bone Temple have been revealed, we know that Nia DeCosta (Candyman) will direct from the script by Alex Garland, and the film has already begun production.
The Bone Temple will open in theaters on January 16, 2026. As for 28 Years Later, it will hit theaters on June 20, 2025. The sequel sees a group of survivors who live on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, they discover that the virus has mutated not only the infected but also survivors.
Danny Boyle, the director of the original film, returns for 28 Years Later, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes. We will also see Cillian Murphy return.
