Magic is in the air! Warner Bros. Pictures announced in 2024 that it was officially developing a sequel to the beloved 1998 film Practical Magic. News has now confirmed it’s received a green light. The first details have now come to light, including that Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are set to reprise their iconic roles as the Owens sisters.
The news has sent waves of excitement through fans of the original film, which has since become a cult classic despite a modest box office performance at the time.
Susanne Bier, the acclaimed director behind films like In a Better World and Things We Lost in the Fire, is in talks to helm Practical Magic 2. Bier previously collaborated with Kidman and Bullock, directing Kidman in HBO’s “The Undoing” and Bullock in Netflix’s “Bird Box.”
The original film, based on Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name, follows the lives of two sisters who possess magical abilities while navigating love, loss, and the challenges of their unique family legacy.
Practical Magic captivated audiences with its humor, heart, and supernatural elements. It featured memorable performances from Kidman, Bullock, Dianne West, Stockard Channing, Aidan Quinn, and Goran Visnjic.
Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film, is set to return to pen the screenplay. Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, and Denise Di Novi will produce.
Although the release date for Practical Magic 2 has not yet been set, the news of the sequel has generated excitement among fans, including us.
