Astronomic Studios is known for its low-budget genre hits like Intinction, Grandma, and Amityville Ripper. Now, it is delivering a blood-soaked tribute to classic 80s backwoods horror with its latest slasher, Pigshit. To celebrate the announcement, the first teaser has been unleashed for Pigshit, giving horror enthusiasts a taste of the carnage to come.
Written and directed by indie filmmaker Bobby Canipe Jr., Pigshit promises to be a gruesome love letter to cult classics. Pigshit aims to deliver a raw and visceral throwback to the golden age of VHS horror. The film follows a group of young adults who return to an abandoned pig farm for a late-night party. However, they aren’t aware that the farm harbors a dark secret. Years earlier, a young boy met a horrific end on the property. His grief-stricken father vanished into the surrounding woods. He’s returned, fueled by madness and a thirst for vengeance. He will stop at nothing to protect his land from the intruders, some of whom may hold secrets about the boy’s demise.
The film boasts a cast of indie horror stars, including Dan Grogan, Mel Heflin, Ryan Martel, Kelsey Baker, Chris Lutterloah, and Mason Hamby, vocalist for the band HEFT.
Joe La Scola, known for his work on the YouTube series and podcast “Movie Dumpster,” serves as the film’s Director of Photography, ensuring Pigshit captures the gritty, nostalgic aesthetic that fans of classic VHS horror crave.
The film’s soundtrack is by composer Mike Trebilcock, known for his work on genre films like Crackcoon. Trebilcock, the frontman of the band The Killjoys, delivers a haunting and pulse-pounding score, blending Southern-fried slasher grit with a synth-heavy sound for a retro horror feel.
“This film is a gnarly, dirty throwback to the kind of movies I grew up renting,” says writer/director Bobby Canipe Jr. “Pigshit doesn’t hold back—it’s mean, nasty, and exactly the kind of slasher fans of ‘80s Southern, backwoods horror are going to love.”
