Fresh off the heels of his role in The Substance, Dennis Quaid is diving headfirst into the dark side with “Happy Face,” the eight-episode true-crime series coming exclusively to Paramount+.

And guess what? We have a brand-spanking-new trailer to give you a taste of the story. You can find it below, and trust me, it’s gonna get under your skin. The first two episodes debut on March 20. New episodes will roll out weekly on Thursdays, leading up to the grand finale on May 1

Annaleigh Ashford (“American Crime Story”) is joining Quaid, and the regular cast includes talent like James Wolk, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, and Benjamin Mackey.

Happy Face” is ripped straight from a real-life nightmare. It’s based on Melissa G. Moore’s “Happy Face” podcast and her autobiography “Shattered Silence.” Imagine finding out your dad, the guy you love, is a notorious serial killer. Yeah, that’s Melissa’s life.

Melissa was 15 when she discovered her dad was the “Happy Face Killer.” Now, as an adult, she’s changed her name and tried to keep her past buried while her dad rots in prison. But here’s the kicker: after years of no contact, he finds a way to force himself back into her life.

The series follows Melissa (Ashford) as she’s dragged back into her father’s twisted world. She’s in a race to figure out if an innocent man is about to get the death penalty for a crime her dad committed. Along the way, she’s forced to face the ripple effect her dad had on his victims’ families and come to terms with her own identity.

Happy Face” is a CBS Studios production with King Size Productions, iHeartPodcasts, and Semi-Formal Productions. Jennifer Cacicio (“Your Honor,” “Shooter”) is serving as showrunner and executive producing alongside Robert and Michelle King, Liz Glotzer, Melissa G. Moore, Conal Byrne, Will Pearson, Michael Showalter, and Jordana Mollick. Michael Showalter (The Dropout, The Eyes of Tammy Faye) directed the first episode.

Bottom line: If you’re into dark, twisted, true-crime-inspired thrillers, you’ll love “Happy Face.” Tune in on March 20 on Paramount+.
