Phillip Buchanon, previously synonymous with pro football, now aims to command attention in cinematic storytelling. The former NFL standout, who played for the Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has established himself as a film producer. His latest venture is the gripping horror short film Kreaster.
Director Jacob Cooney is at the helm of Kreaster. He is known for his distinctive visual style and narrative acumen, evidenced in works such as A Deadly Ride, Pitching Tents, and Blood Circus. The film’s haunting narrative is the product of a collaborative effort. Cooney, Buchanon, and Emmy-winning writer Bill Hanstock (Alien Predator, Megalodon: The Frenzy) teamed up to craft the script.
Kreaster unfolds with a compelling logline: “After an unknown entity causes the entire population of a small town to disappear, a military officer and a civilian paranormal researcher are tasked to interview the town’s lone survivor.” This premise sets the stage for a film that delves into the depths of mystery and the unsettling unknown.
The film features a talented cast, including Sal Rendino (Billions), Laura Poe (Twisters), and Greg Nutcher (The Equalizer).
Phillip Buchanon’s dedication to Kreaster extends beyond mere production; his passion for storytelling drives the project. The short film is a launchpad for showcasing its merit and developing a full-length feature adaptation. The feature film is currently titled Pentecost. Cooney and Hanstock crafted the script. It will delve deeper into the film’s eerie mythology, expanding upon the unsettling events in the short.
“Storytelling has always been a fundamental aspect of my journey,” Buchanon articulated, emphasizing his commitment to the project. “With ‘KREASTER,’ we are constructing a narrative that is both suspenseful and intellectually stimulating. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such a gifted team and to bring this vision to fruition.”
Jacob Cooney, celebrated for his keen directorial vision and ability to sculpt compelling characters, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Phillip’s unwavering enthusiasm for this narrative has been a source of inspiration. We are thrilled to bring this dark tale to life and, more importantly, to delve further into the mythos, crafting an even darker, more terrifying, and profoundly compelling feature film.”
Kreaster is in the final stages of post-production, with its debut scheduled for the upcoming Made in Huntington Film and TV Festival.
