Victoria Pedretti, known for her haunting performances in “The Haunting of Hill House,” and Lili Reinhart, the beloved star of “Riverdale,” are set to star in Forbidden Fruits, Deadline reports. This isn’t your average witchy tale; it’s a darkly comedic exploration of sisterhood, secrets, and the perils of unchecked power. It is based on Lily Houghton‘s “Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin” and “Through Her, We All Die.”
The Story
The movie centers on Apple, Cherry, and Fig. They are a trio of fiercely feminist spellcasters who moonlight as witches in the basement of their workplace, Free Eden. Their after-hours coven is a sanctuary where they wield their magic and revel in their sisterly bond. However, the arrival of the new girl, Pumpkin, disrupts their carefully constructed dynamic. Pumpkin begins to question the group’s dynamics and hidden agendas. So now, the “fruits” must confront their internal demons or risk succumbing to a bloody and chaotic fate.
The ensemble cast is a vibrant mix of rising stars and established talent. Alexandra Shipp, known for her role in X-Men: Apocalypse, joins the coven with Lola Tung from “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Internet sensation Emma Chamberlain also stars. Meredith Alloway directs from a script she co-wrote with Lily Houghton.
Deadline reports that the film is produced by a powerful team, including Mason Novick, Trent Hubbard, Mary Anne Waterhouse, and Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body). The horror streaming service Shudder has acquired the distribution rights for the US and Canada.
Director Meredith Alloway expressed her enthusiasm for the project: “I’m so grateful to have found a home for Forbidden Fruits with IFC Films, a studio who continually encourages filmmakers to experiment, hone their voice, and play within the medium. IFC Films has produced and distributed so many films that have directly inspired me over the years. The team has gifted me creative freedom and support in every step of the process, down to advocating for a theatrical release – a true gift to any filmmaker. This cast of incredible artists has exceeded my wildest expectations. As a true fan of all of their work, it’s an absolute thrill to see them bring these characters to life. I can’t wait for the world to see the way they shine through Forbidden Fruits.”
Forbidden Fruits promises to be a fresh and exciting addition to the supernatural horror genre. With its blend of dark humor and a stellar cast, this film is set to captivate audiences with its unique and intoxicating brew. Prepare for a wickedly entertaining ride as these modern-day witches confront their inner demons and unleash their forbidden powers.
