One of the rules of horror movies, etched in blood and screams, is simple: Never, under any circumstances, resurrect the dead. This lesson is repeatedly hammered home through countless films. Yet, this rule is broken in the unsettling new trailer for A24’s Bring Her Back.

A Haunting Story

Bring Her Back introduces us to two children thrust into the unsettling world of foster care. Their new reality takes a sinister turn when they meet their foster mother and Oliver, a foster child facing his own tragic loss. However, the atmosphere is thick with unease, punctuated by strange, ritualistic practices.

The Terror-Filled Trailer

The trailer reveals a chilling premise: the foster mother believes that the spirit lingers within the body for a period after death, a window of opportunity to reverse the irreversible. Driven by this belief, she attempts to bring back Cathy, a figure shrouded in mystery. While the desire to reunite with loved ones lost is a universal ache, the trailer hints at a dark and dangerous path. It is a descent into forbidden territory where the consequences are likely to be horrific.

Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, the filmmakers behind Talk to Me, Bring Her Back boasts a compelling cast. Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, and Stephen Phillips star.

The film is not only a nightmare-inducing horror film; it’s also a psychological thriller. It delves into the human psyche, exploring the desperation and delusion that can arise from profound loss. It challenges us to confront our own fears about mortality and the unknown. What happens when we dare to tamper with the delicate balance between life and death?

In Theaters this May

Bring Her Back arrives in theaters on May 30th. This story will linger long after the credits roll, a chilling reminder of the age-old horror movie adage that some doors are best left unopened.
