“Dexter” fans, rejoice! The chilling saga of everyone’s favorite serial killer is set to expand, with Paramount+ and Showtime officially renewing “Dexter: Original Sin” for a second season, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. This exciting news signals a continued exploration of Dexter Morgan’s dark and complex origins.

Dexter: Original Sin” transports viewers back to 1991 Miami, a vibrant backdrop for Dexter Morgan’s formative years. The first season delves into Dexter’s transition from a seemingly ordinary student to a burgeoning avenging serial killer. Patrick Gibson steps into the iconic role, portraying a young Dexter (Patrick Gibson) grappling with his burgeoning bloodlust. The series chronicles his struggle to control his “dark passenger,” the insatiable urge to kill.

Under the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter learns to channel his violent impulses. He must go by a carefully constructed “Code.” It dictates that he target those deemed deserving of elimination from society while staying off the radar of law enforcement. This proves to be particularly challenging as Dexter begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. It places him close to the very people he must evade.

Adding a layer of familiar darkness, Michael C. Hall, who masterfully embodied Dexter Morgan in the original Showtime series, lends his voice to the character’s iconic inner monologue. This crucial element of the series directly connects to the original show, enhancing the prequel’s authenticity and appeal.

Clyde Phillips, the original “Dexter” showrunner, returns to helm “Dexter: Original Sin,” serving as showrunner and executive producer. The series also boasts a formidable team of executive producers, including Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Robert Lloyd Lewis serves as producer, while Michael Lehmann takes on the role of directing executive producer.

Three Dexter Series

Dexter: Original Sin” serves as a prequel to “Dexter,” which captivated audiences for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013. In 2021, the story continued with the new sequel series, “Dexter: New Blood,” which saw Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role. Furthermore, Paramount+ with Showtime is also currently in production on “Dexter: Resurrection,” a sequel to “Dexter: New Blood,” which is also returning.
