Get ready for some seriously spooky vibes, horror fans! The Independent Film Company (IFC) and Shudder have just snagged the rights to Whistle, the latest chiller from director Corin Hardy, who brought you movies like The Nun and series like “Gangs Of London.”
This film sounds wild. It’s written by Owen Egerton, based on his own short story. It features an impressive cast including Dafne Keen (Logan), Sophie Nélisse (“Yellowjackets”), Sky Yang (Rebel Moon), Percy Hynes White (My Old Ass), and the always awesome Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead).
This acquisition is a big deal for IFC Entertainment Group, especially after their recent box office smashing success with Clown in a Cornfield, which actually topped their 2024 record set by Late Night With The Devil. So, yeah, they’re on a roll, and we’re predicting Whistle will bring more box office success.
What’s Whistle All About?
Imagine this: a bunch of high school misfits stumble upon an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. Sounds cool, right? Nope. They learn the hard way that if you blow this thing, the terrifying sound summons death to hunt them down. As the body count rises, these friends must frantically dig into the whistle’s origins, desperately trying to stop the horrific chain of events they’ve unleashed.
A Bit of History
It is believed that ancient Aztec warriors used these eerie instruments to terrify their enemies during battle and during rituals such as human sacrifices. The seriously eerie shriek they produced is unsettling, sounding like a scream from the underworld.
From the Director’s Mouth
Director Corin Hardy is super pumped for this one, saying Whistleis “made with the same heart-on-sleeve, disenfranchised-teen-spirit found in my favorite genre movies that I grew up watching.” He was totally drawn to the mysterious vibe of the “Death Whistle” and how it let him create “a variety of cinematic, imaginative and terrifying deaths.” Sounds like we’re in for some creative kills!
Why They’re So Hyped
Adam Koehler, Director of Acquisitions and Productions, is stoked about the movie, calling Hardy a “master of his craft.” He’s convinced that with Whistle, Hardy has “created a vicious and bloody treat that will stand tall among the best and scariest horror films in recent box office history.” High praise, right?
David Gross and Jesse Shapira produce for No Trace Camping, and Macdara Kelleher for Wild Atlantic Pictures.
