Josh Hartnett is back and busier than ever following his role in M. Night Shyamalan’s serial killer movie Trap, followed by his role in the new action flick Fight or Flight. Reports have come that the actor has just been tapped to star in a brand-new, as-yet-untitled Netflix limited series. What’s more, it’s from Jesse McKeown, who brought you Netflix’s hit series “The Umbrella Academy.”
What’s It About?
Hartnett is set to play a hard-bitten fisherman who suddenly finds himself in a desperate fight to protect his family, his tight-knit community, and their vanishing way of life. Why the sudden struggle? Because a mysterious, terrifying sea creature decides to start terrorizing his remote Newfoundland town. Sounds like a classic man vs. beast tale with some deep emotional stakes!
Who Is Behind It?
The series is bringing in some serious directorial talent, with Jamie Childs (“The Sandman”), Helen Shaver (“Vikings”), and Stephen Dunn (“Queer as Folk”) all set to helm episodes. The writing team is equally impressive, featuring Karen Walton (Ginger Snaps), Perry Chafe (“Frontier”), and Natty Zavitz.
McKeown will also serve as showrunner, guiding the series from behind the scenes and executive producing alongside Hartnett himself. They’re joined by a strong team of executive producers, including Jessica Rhoades (“Black Mirror”), Louise Sutton (“Black Mirror”), Chris Hatcher (“Shadowhunters”), and Sharon Hall (“The Expanse”). That’s a lot of talent.
This six-episode series will be shot in Newfoundland, Canada, lending a sense of authenticity and atmosphere to the remote, coastal setting.
A Horror Pedigree
This is particularly exciting news for horror fans. Josh Hartnett has a solid track record in horror, starring in The Faculty, the incredible vampire movie 30 Days of Night, Halloween H20, and the tragically underrated gothic series “Penny Dreadful.”
