Prime Video has recently given the green light to this “Carrie” series, an eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s chilling 1974 horror novel. It’ss being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, ensuring a big-budget, high-quality production.

Mike Flanagan is not only serving as writer and showrunner, but he’ll also be directing select episodes, which is fantastic news for fans of his signature atmospheric and character-driven horror. He’s also executive producing alongside his longtime producing partner, Trevor Macy. This is not Flanagan’s first adaptation of King’s work. He is also behind Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and The Life of Chuck.

The Story You Know, But a Fresh Take

In Stephen King’s Carrie, “Misfit high schooler Carrie White has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s death, Carrie finds herself contending with the brutal landscape of public High School. As she struggles with life, she realises that she has telekinetic powers. When a prank at prom goes too far, Carrie snaps, leading to a tragic outcome.

This upcoming Prime Video show is being described as “a bold and timely reimagining” of the timeless story. Given Flanagan’s track record with King adaptations and his knack for character studies within the horror genre, this promises to be a fresh yet faithful take.

Carrie’s a Popular Girl After All

Carrie” has been adapted several times over the years. That includes Brian DePalma’s iconic 1976 film, a 2002 TV movie directed by David Carson, and Kimberly Peirce’s 2013 version. Katt Shea also produced a Carrie sequel movie back in 1999. With this new series, Flanagan and his team are set to bring the terror of Carrie White to a new generation, with the space to delve deeper into the psychological complexities of the characters.

So, with Mike Flanagan’s impressive talent behind the camera and his success with his previous King adaptations, we already know that “Carrie” is likely to be a hit. Stay tuned for more updates.
