There’s been a lot of chatter lately about the future of the Saw franchise, especially after Saw XI was pulled from the release schedule. Following the success of the tenth installment, the sequel was initially scheduled to release on September 26, 2025. However, behind-the-scenes turmoil left the fate of the series uncertain.

Well, get ready for a shocking update! Deadline is reporting that the biggest name in horror, Blumhouse, has now acquired the rights to Twisted Pictures’ portion of the Saw franchise. This means Blumhouse is essentially taking over ownership from Twisted’s Mark Burg and Oren Koules, though Lionsgate will still be involved as a partner.

What Does This Mean for Saw?

Here’s how it breaks down: Lionsgate owned 50% of the Saw rights, and Twisted Pictures owned the other half. Now, Blumhouse is acquiring Twisted’s half. From what we understand, disagreements between Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate led to the shelving of the planned Saw XI, putting the franchise’s future in limbo.

According to Deadline’s report, an eleventh installment isn’t currently in development. Still, it sounds like we can definitely expect the Saw saga to be back on the big screen before long.

The Co-Creator is On Board

In a super interesting twist, Deadline also noted that this deal will bring original Saw co-creator James Wan back into the franchise! This is thanks to the recent agreement between Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.

A New Chapter for Saw

Stay tuned, because this is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting new chapter for Bumhouse and Saw! If you somehow missed Saw X or want to rewatch it, you can now watch it on Fandango at Home, Apple TV, and Prime Video. Or get your copy on Blu-ray.

Saw X sees the return of John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, in one of the most chilling installments of the Saw franchise yet. The film explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of SAW I and II, the film finds a sick and desperate John traveling to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of obtaining a miracle cure for his cancer, only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.

Blumhouse Continues to Rule the Genre

Blumhouse’s Saw news isn’t the only thing they have announced recently. Just yesterday, we shared the news that they are adapting the hit game Phasmophobia for a new film. Oh, and let’s not forget the recent trailer reveal for M3GAN 2.0. They’ve also announced a horde of gaming news recently, which you can find here. Blumhouse’s legacy in the genre continues to grow with no sign of slowing. And for that, we’re thankful.
