Get ready, horror fans and indie film aficionados! In anticipation of its 40th anniversary celebration kicking off on November 2nd, Glass Eye Pix is teaming up with OCN Distribution to launch an exciting new video label. Their mission? To release newly restored versions of the fantastic films that built their brand!
This is massive news for anyone who loves the early work from game-changing names like Ti West, Kelly Reichardt, Jim Mickle, Rick Alverson, Graham Reznick, Glenn McQuaid, Mickey Keating, Joe Maggio, and Ilya Chaiken. You can expect their early, style-packed, scary, and skillfully made movies to be released in lavishly produced Blu-ray editions.
The Vision Behind Glass Eye Pix
Glass Eye Pix is one of the indie film industry’s longest-running companies. This fiercely independent, NYC-based production outfit is led by the art-horror auteur himself, Larry Fessenden. You know his work from films like Black Out, Behind the ABCs of Death 2, and NBC’s Fear Itself episode “Skin “and Bones.”
Fessenden, a Spirit Award winner, has been running Glass Eye Pix since 1985 with a clear mission: to support individual voices in the arts. Beyond narrative films, the company has created documentaries, books, comics, audio plays, and other unique projects designed to inspire and offer a refreshing contrast to corporate media.
A Perfect Partnership with OCN
The new Glass Eye Pix label is launching in partnership with OCN Distribution. Justin LaLiberty, head of OCN, is clearly thrilled: “I’ve admired the work that Larry Fessenden has done over the years, not just in his own work but in that of shaping an outstanding production company in Glass Eye Pix, one of the last bastions of truly independent genre filmmaking in the United States. I’m elated to partner with Larry to create the best home video releases possible for the films Glass Eye has produced, past and present, which will be distributed through OCN Distribution.”
Larry Fessenden shares the excitement, emphasizing his love for physical media: “I love physical media as a way to present a movie with its graphic identity, extra features and ruminations by artisans and commentators, capturing the elusive resonance of an individual picture in one package. I hope fans of Glass Eye will enjoy the embarrassment of riches we have in store for them in the coming months.”
Kicking Things Off with AUTOMATONS!
Glass Eye Pix label is set to kick off its launch with the Blu-ray release of James Felix McKenney’s AUTOMATONS. This sci-fi horror gem stars Christine Spencer, Angus Scrimm, Brenda Cooney, Jennifer Boutell, and Larry Fessenden himself.
The film’s intriguing premise? Somewhere in the distant future, a girl is the last of her people, who perished in a generations-long war. She continues to fight with the help of a group of antiquated robot helpers and soldiers.
