Get ready for a darker, more intense take on a classic! The trailer for director Edgar Wright’s (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver) remake of The Running Man has officially arrived! It teases a gritty new vision for the iconic dystopian thriller inspired by Stephen King’s tale.
Glen Powell Steps into the Arena
Following his role in Twisters, Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards, a desperate man who joins the deadly game show in a bid to save his sick child. He must fight to survive on the run for 30 days as he’s hunted down. And the trailer teases he’s a real badass. You can expect a ton of balls-to-the-wall action, brutal kills, and a bit of humor thrown into the mix. Wright himself has hinted that his version will be even darker than the 1987 adaptation that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. And we are totally here for it!
Wright on His Vision
The director, known for his unique stylistic flair, has emphasized that his approach will honor the original story’s vision while adding something new.
He explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast: “I think in this day and age… when remakes are done well is if there’s something else to add or there’s a different take on it. The problem is sometimes recently like remakes are just kind of facsimiles of the original film, and I don’t really get that excited about a lot of them, because they feel like sort of karaoke versions of the originals.” Sounds like Wright is bringing his A-game to avoid the “karaoke version” trap!
A Star-Studded Cast Joins the Game
The film features a truly talented cast ready to face the brutal challenges of the game show. Josh Brolin (from the Avengers) stars alongside Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), David Zayas (“Dexter”), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and, of course, Glen Powell.
Watch The Running Man when it hits theaters on November 7, 2025! In the meantime, if you’re craving more King adaptations to keep you entertained, several are being released this year, including the remake of The Stand, The Long Walk, and the series “The Institute.”
