A fresh new look at Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is officially ALIVE, unveiled by Variety. And as always, the Hellboy director doesn’t disappoint. The images are rich, dark, and simply stunning, exactly what you would expect from the director.

The visionary Academy Award-winning filmmaker shared his thoughts on the film recently with Tatum.

“This is, for me, the culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life. I first read Mary Shelley‘s Frankenstein as a kid and saw Boris Karloff in what became for me an almost religious state. Monsters have become my personal belief system,” del Toro passionately stated.

He further elaborated on how the iconic story has influenced his entire career: “There are strands of Frankenstein throughout my films — Cronos, Blade, Hellboy, big time on Pinocchio, and a long, long et cetera. Exploring the relationship between humanity and monsters, creator and creation, father and son, has consumed my stores again and again. I wanted to make this film before even I had a camera, and I’ve been actively pursuing it now for over 25 years. It has grown so close to me that now it’s biography. And tonight, here, finally, we can share it with you.”

A Star-Studded Cast Brings the Classic to Life

Del Toro’s Frankenstein will follow the tragic tale of brilliant but egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein, who, through a monstrous experiment, brings a creature to life. This act ultimately leads to the undoing of both the ambitious creator and his tragic creation.

The film boasts an incredible cast to embody these legendary roles. Oscar Isaac (Dune) stars as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) as Frankenstein’s monster. They are joined by Mia Goth (MaXXXine) and Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds). Rounding out this stellar ensemble are Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (“Ahsoka”), David Bradley (Harry Potter), Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth”), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”).

Del Toro’s Frankenstein will be rated “R” for “bloody violence and grisly images.” Look for the film to premiere on Netflix this November.
