Well Go USA has acquired the North American distribution rights for the highly anticipated Korean mystery thriller, The Ugly, ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.
A Gripping Mystery from a Master Director
The Ugly is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, known for his hit zombie films Train to Busan and Peninsula. He is also behind the hit Netflix series “Hellbound.” This new project, which he also wrote and produced, is an adaptation of his 2018 graphic novel, Face.
In the Film
The film stars Park Jeong-min (Decision to Leave) and Kwon Hae-hyo (Peninsula). It tells the story of Dong-hwan (Park), who receives a heartbreaking call. The police have discovered the skeletal remains of his mother, who disappeared 40 years ago. Dong-hwan never knew his mother’s face. Now, he begins to investigate her presumed murder, unraveling a long-hidden truth about her life.
A Gripping Mystery
Well Go USA’s President/CEO, Doris Pfardrescher, praised the film as a “gripping mystery thriller” and a “powerful testament to the emotional and narrative depth of global cinema.” The Ugly marks the return of director Yeon Sang-ho after a five-year absence. The Ugly will have a U.S. theatrical release starting September 26, 2025.
