Apple TV+ has announced that its highly anticipated Martin Scorsese documentary series, “Mr. Scorsese,” will premiere this October. This isn’t just a simple retrospective. It’s a five-part, in-depth look at the legendary filmmaker’s life and work.
Unrestricted Access to a Creative Genius
The “Mr. Scorsese” team was granted exclusive, unrestricted access to Scorsese’s private archives. This enables them to explore his journey from an entirely new perspective. The documentary, directed by Rebecca Miller (She Came to Me, Personal Velocity), features extensive conversations with Scorsese himself, as well as with his friends, family, and collaborators.
Interviews include Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg, and Sharon Stone. Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, and Cate Blanchett also appear. Mick Jagger and the late Robbie Robertson, Scorsese’s longtime editor, Thelma Schoonmaker, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto will also appear. Miller and Damon Cardasis, as well as Cindy Tolan, Rick Yorn, and Christopher Donnelly, executive produce.
The series delves into how Scorsese’s life, growing up in New York City’s Little Italy, profoundly shaped his artistic vision. The documentary delves into the themes that have fascinated Scorsese throughout his career. Particularly his exploration of the good and evil of humankind—a theme evident in iconic films such as Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Killers of the Flower Moon.
Director Rebecca Miller states, “This project is a filmmaker’s dream.” She continued. “I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for stars.”
The Story Behind “Taxi Driver”
The documentary will feature, among other things, a never-before-told story about one of Scorsese’s most iconic films, Taxi Driver, with Scorsese and other filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, speaking on the legendary film that stars Robert De Niro and Jody Foster.
This massive project promises to be a must-watch for anyone who loves film. The Apple+ series “Mr. Scorsese” is set to make its premiere on October 17, 2025.
