It’s the crossover we didn’t know we needed. FX is bringing the chaos of “Far Cry” to television, spearheaded by the power duo of Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, Variety reports.
Just like the games (and Hawley’s “Fargo”), every season will feature a fresh plot, a new location, and different characters. Rob Mac, the “Mythic Quest” and “It’s Always Sunny legend,” isn’t just writing; he reportedly will also be in front of the camera.
Video game adaptations are in a golden age, with series based on “Twisted Metal” and “Fallout” leading the way. We expect “Far Cry” to impress with this team, which has the resume to back it up. Hawley has 70 Emmy nominations under his belt for “Fargo,” while Mac has proven his gaming cred with Mythic Quest.
“To create a big action show that can change from year to year… is a dream come true,” Hawley said, promising to bring an “irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen.”
Ubisoft’s “Far Cry” has established itself as a titan of the open-world genre, blending lush, exotic backdrops with high-stakes guerrilla warfare. In each installment, players are thrust into a hostile wilderness governed by a charismatic tyrant. The core challenge is twofold: toppling a ruthless regime through rebellion and simply surviving an ecosystem where wildlife is often as lethal as enemy soldiers.
With over 100 million players since its 2004 debut, the “Far Cry” franchise is ripe for a big-budget adaptation. While plot details are secret, fans are already speculating: will we see Vaas? Pagan Min? Or a totally new tyrant? I guess we’ll have to wait until the series premieres on FX to find out.
