Wrap your head around this one—the brand new Anaconda movie is slithering into theaters this Christmas, and it’s officially leaning all the way into the meta-chaos. If you thought the original ’90s classic was wild, wait until you see Paul Rudd and Jack Black try to remake it.

The excitement reached a fever pitch today as the final trailer dropped, confirming a massive surprise: original Anaconda legend Ice Cube is back! After teasing a cameo at the film’s premiere, the new trailer reveals he’s playing the ultimate role—himself.

The Plot: A Movie Within a Disaster

This isn’t a straight remake; it’s a “meta-comedy” reimagining. The story follows Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd), two best friends facing a midlife crisis. Their solution? Heading to the Amazon to film a frame-for-frame remake of their all-time favorite movie, 1997’s Anaconda.

What starts as a comically low-budget indie shoot (we’re talking a $9,400 bank loan for a $2.5 million vision) turns into a literal horror movie when an actual giant anaconda shows up. Suddenly, their “chaotic” set becomes a fight for survival, proving that the movie they’re dying to make might actually get them killed.

An All-Star Ensemble

Director Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) has assembled a powerhouse cast to join Rudd and Black in the jungle. Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Steve Zahn (The White Lotus), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Selton Mello, and Ione Skye round out the cast.

Why We’re Hyped

Early reactions are already calling it “one of the funniest movies of the year,” comparing its energy to Tropic Thunder. Between Jack Black’s signature energy and Paul Rudd’s “everyman” charm, this reboot looks like the perfect blend of nostalgic love letter and modern-day creature feature.

Don’t Miss the Premiere

The snake is back, and it’s bigger (and funnier) than ever. Catch Anaconda in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.
