If you’ve been to the movies in the last two weeks, you probably helped turn The Housemaid into a massive global obsession. The film has already raked in over $133 million worldwide, and audiences are literally screaming at the screen.

Lionsgate heard those screams loud and clear. They just announced that production is starting this year (2026) on the sequel: The Housemaid’s Secret!

The First Film

The first film follows Millie (Sydney Sweeney), a young woman with a messy past who wants a clean slate. She thinks she’s found it when she lands a job as a live-in maid.

But as Millie soon finds out, “picture-perfect” is usually a front. Between Nina’s erratic behavior and the chilling vibes of the house itself, Millie realizes the secrets hidden behind these mansion walls are way more dangerous than the ones she’s running from.

The Dream Team Returns

Lionsgate isn’t messing with a winning formula. They’ve locked in the heavy hitters to bring the second book in Freida McFadden’s best-selling trilogy to life.

Not only is Sydney Sweeney expected to return as Millie, but she’s also back as an Executive Producer.

The studio is considering Paul Feig to return to the director’s chair to bring his “sexy, twisted thriller” vibe to the sequel. Rebecca Sonnenshine, the writer who nailed the first adaptation, is already working on the script for the next chapter. That’s not all. Everyone’s favorite handsome-but-dangerous co-star, Michele Morrone, is also expected to return.

What’s the Secret?

While we don’t want to spoil too much for those who haven’t finished the first movie (go see it!), the second book follows Millie as she moves on to a new, wealthy household.

The book The Housemaid’s Secret has sold over 4 million copies and spent more than a year on the New York Times bestseller list. If the first movie was a “riotous” experience, the sequel promises to be even more scandalous. As Lionsgate Chair Adam Fogelson put it, audiences “want to know what happens next,” and Millie’s journey is far from over.

By the Numbers: Why This is Huge

Based on the numbers, the franchise is a major hit. The first film earned an impressive $75 million domestically in just 17 days. The author, Freida McFadden, has sold over 12 million books from the series, which has spent 65 weeks on the bestseller list. Those are mindblowing numbers!

If you haven’t seen it, watch The Housemaid in theaters now and get ready for more twists and chills when the sequel arrives.
