Freestyle Digital Media (part of Byron Allen’s media empire) just snagged the North American rights for The Eye, a chilling supernatural psychological thriller.

A Vacation from Hell

Global Bollywood powerhouse Shruti Haasan stars as Diana, a woman who is absolutely drowning in grief after her husband, Felix (Mark Rowley), tragically drowns. In a classic “bad idea” move, she returns to the remote island where they once vacationed, looking for closure.

However, instead of peace, she finds a nightmare. The villagers start whispering about a unique, twisted version of the “Evil Eye” curse. The legend says you can bring a soul back—but only if you trade a different one for it.

The Dilemma

Diana is offered the chance to bring her husband Felix back if she ends another life. However, that’s easier said than done. Her struggle deepens as she begins to wonder whether she is losing her mind or whether the villagers are setting her up for something much darker. And the village elder, Koraki, keeps dropping cryptic warnings that make everything ten times more terrifying.

Not Your Average Horror Thriller

This isn’t just a jump-scare fest. Director Daphne Schmon describes it as a dive into the “disorienting space where grief blurs into fear.” Set in the heady, atmospheric atmosphere of 1980s Greece, it’s as much a character study as a horror movie.

Shruti Haasan is hyped about this one for more than just the script. The film was created by an all-women-led production house and focused on sustainable filmmaking.

As Haasan puts it: “If we want to continue telling our stories, we must be able to tell them in a manner that is conscious of our impact.”
