It’s been a minute since we heard anything about the upcoming Dead by Daylight movie. However, the fog is finally lifting. Since its 2016 debut, the game has basically become the “Avengers of Horror,” and Blumhouse is officially ready to bring that chaotic energy to the big screen.

The project was first announced back in 2023, but Jason Blum has been holding out for a script that actually does the game justice. Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they’ve finally found the writers to dot the I’s and slash the T’s.

The Writing Team: Horror Royalty

Blumhouse has tapped two genre heavyweights to pen the script, and honestly, the project is in very capable, blood-soaked hands. The script is from horror heavyweights David Leslie Johnston-McGoldrick (The Conjuring universe, The Walking Dead, and the original Orphan) and Alexandre Aja. You know Aja as the director behind the brutal Hills Have Eyes remake and the high-tension alligator flick Crawl.

This is their first time collaborating. And while Aja is a phenomenal director, he won’t be behind the camera for this one—he’s busy prepping for the shark-infested sequel Under Paris 2.

The Vision: “Fear That Is Earned”

There’s no director attached yet, but Jason Blum is already hyped. In a recent statement, he praised the duo for balancing character drama with “relentless genre intensity.”

“Their work establishes a world where fear is not just experienced, but earned,” Blum said. “It is a cinematic blueprint designed to attract a director who can elevate that vision.”

An Iconic Game

What makes it truly iconic is its “Horror Hall of Fame” roster. Over the years, the game has evolved into a massive crossover event where you can play as (or run away from) legends like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Ghostface, and even Chucky. Whether you’re looping around a pallet to buy your teammates time or revving up a chainsaw for a quick down, every match is an unpredictable mix of strategy, adrenaline, and jump scares.

The list of successful video game adaptations is growing, with the most recent being The Mortuary Assistant. Dead by Daylight has a massive built-in fanbase of over 60 million players. With James Wan and Stephen Mulrooney producing, the goal is to create something that feels like a love letter to fans while standing on its own as a terrifying slasher.
