When it comes to female writers and directors, there just aren’t enough of them. It’s an important point of view and understanding. But there is one we need to talk about, . Kermani is a powerful voice. She’s behind the new horror thriller The Dreadful. Spoiler: It’s far from dreadful.

Set deep in the heart of medieval England, the story follows Anne (Sophie Turner) and her mother-in-law, Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden). The two live a harsh, isolated life on the fringes of society, just trying to get by.

Everything changes when a man from Anne’s past (Kit Harington) returns from the war. His arrival triggers a sinister curse that manifests through a mysterious, terrifying knight. Suddenly, their struggle for survival isn’t just about hunger and cold—it’s about a force that threatens to tear their world apart.

The moment I saw the first poster and realized the film sees the reunion of Turner and Harrington, I was in. I am a big “Game of Thrones” fan. The film is dark and twisted in the best possible way. The cinematography alone makes it worth watching.

Kermani and I talked about the film during our interview, its story, the cast, and so much more. Kemani already had an impressive resume with films like V/H/S/85, Abraham’s Boys, and more. The addition of The Dreadful only makes her career more impressive. Be sure to watch the interview below and watch The Dreadful in theaters, on demand, and on Digital on February 20, 2026.
