Who ya gonna call? Well, if you’re Netflix, apparently everyone. It looks like the Ghostbusters franchise is preparing to cross the streams once again. According to ComingSoon.com, we aren’t just getting one hit of nostalgia—we’re getting a double dose of animated ectoplasm.

The Big Screen (Small Screen Edition): Ecto

While Sony is steering the ship, the upcoming animated feature film—reportedly titled Ecto—is headed straight to Netflix. But don’t expect the usual “trap and zap” routine. Sneider suggests the film will flip the script, telling the story from the ghost’s perspective. Finally, we might find out if Slimer is actually a misunderstood foodie or just a jerk.

The Series: Politics & PKE Meters

Parallel to the film, a new animated series is brewing with Elliott Kalan (The Daily Show) at the helm. If you thought dealing with ghosts was hard, try 90s bureaucracy. The show is reportedly a period piece set in the 1990s. It follows Walter Peck (the man with no… well, you know) during his initial run for Mayor. Expect something akin to Stranger Things: Tales From’ 85—aiming for that sweet spot of “spooky but accessible” that appeals to both kids and the adults who still own original Kenner action figures.

Back in October 2024, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan teased more Ghostbuster action coming.

He told The Direct, “The answer is yes… we definitely are continuing the conversation of telling big ‘Ghostbuster’ stories on the big screen. And stay tuned. There’ll be more. There’ll be more about that later.”

Speaking about the Ghostbusters animated series, Kenan added, “We are in very active development on our animated series that we’re producing with Netflix.”

We’ll keep you posted as more details surface.
