The ultimate filmmaking collective—The Adams Family (John Adams, Toby Poser, Zelda Adams, and Lulu Adams) is officially back. The family has announced their latest feature, The Glorious Dead. It is an apocalyptic monster movie that promises to be a visceral descent into chaos.
Following the success of Mother of Flies, this new film will make waves at the Cannes Film Festival’s Frontières Platform Buyers Showcase on May 16–17.
One Very, Very Bad Day
Set against the backdrop of crumbling Americana, the story centers on a small-town sheriff (Toby Poser). The Sheriff wakes up to realize the world she swore to protect has essentially dissolved. Zelda Adams stars alongside her as her deputy, navigating a landscape where the rules of life and death have been permanently rewritten.
The family described the project to Variety as a “new take on what the end of the world might look like—for those still living and those the grave can’t keep down.”
Why Horror Fans Should Be Hyped
If you’ve seen the family’s previous hits like Hellbender or Where the Devil Roams, you know they don’t do “generic.” For The Glorious Dead, they are doubling down on the family’s signature practical effects. The “monsters and the holes from which they crawl” take center stage in this literal interpretation of Hell on Earth. And a localized, intimate look at the end of the world through the lens of a tiny town.
The Adams Family Legacy
This announcement comes during a massive year for the family. Not only are they releasing The Glorious Dead, but they are also the subjects of the documentary Blood & Guts, which is currently tearing through the festival circuit. Their impressive filmography continues to grow, adding to a list of indie cult classics that includes Where the Devil Roams, Hellbender, and The Deeper You Dig. During our interview with the Adams about their movie Hell Hole, they went into detail about working as a family and much more. Be sure to check it out.
