If you thought your family dinners were awkward, wait until you meet Tim. Lionsgate is set to release the brutal horror-thriller The Step Daddy on Digital and On Demand this April. Directed by genre veteran Thomas J. Churchill (Devilreaux, The Salem Chronicles), the film proves that “blended families” can sometimes lead to a very bloody mix.
Father Doesn’t Always Know Best
Tim appears to be the ultimate catch: thoughtful, mild-mannered, and the perfect addition to a new home. But the honeymoon phase ends abruptly when Tim decides to trade family bonding for a kitchen knife.
After a sudden, violent outburst against his new wife and stepson, Tim’s true nature is revealed. He is a calculated sociopath on a permanent hunting trip. As the body count climbs and his “perfect” family begins to smell the rot behind his charming facade, it becomes a desperate race to stop him before he moves on to his next unsuspecting household.
A Cast of Genre Heavyweights
The film brings together some of the most recognizable faces in modern suspense and horror: Vincent M. Ward, Ptosha Story, Lew Temple, and Nick Gomez star.
Why It’s On Our Radar
Thomas J. Churchill has a knack for “old-school” thrills that lean into practical tension and visceral payoffs. By taking the classic “killer in the house” trope and dialing up the sociopathic stakes, The Step Daddy looks to be a lean, mean 97-minute reminder to always do a more thorough background check on your mom’s new boyfriend.
This April, lock your doors, check your perimeter, and remember: sometimes the “perfect” man is just a monster with a very good haircut. The Step Daddy hits Digital and Demand on April 28, 2026.
