If you’ve ever looked at a haunted house and thought, “I’d love to be in there, but only if the ghosts can see the whites of my eyes,” JanduSoft and the aptly named Bowl of Tentacles have some great news for you.

On May 7, Evil Inside VR officially launches for PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest 3. But don’t call it a port. Calling this a port is like calling a hurricane a “light breeze.” This is a complete, ground-up reimagining of the psychological horror hit, specifically rebuilt to make sure you never look at an Ouija board—or your hallway—the same way again.

The “Family Reunion” From Hell

The story follows Mark, a teenager having the worst week ever. His mother is dead, his father is in handcuffs for it, and Mark—in a classic “horror movie protagonist” move—decides to seek closure via an Ouija board.

Naturally, things go sideways. Instead of a heartfelt goodbye, Mark triggers a descent into a shifting, hostile nightmare. Only this time, you aren’t watching Mark through a screen; you are Mark. You’ll be navigating his trauma and his house with your own two hands, which we assume will be shaking.

What’s New (Besides Your Increased Heart Rate)?

The developers spent an “intense” development cycle making sure this version feels fresh, even for those who survived the original. This isn’t just the same game with goggles; it’s a structural overhaul:

-Spatial Sound & Menacing Lighting: The audio system has been revamped, ensuring that every floorboard creak sounds like it’s right behind you. The lighting is tuned to “Oppressive Darkness,” designed to keep your tension at an all-time high.

-Tactile Terror: Puzzles have been entirely redesigned for VR interaction. You won’t just click on objects; you’ll reach out, grab them, and solve riddles with natural, precise movements.

-A Shifting Narrative: The story flow and sequences have been tweaked to lean into the psychological strengths of VR. The house itself feels trapped and hostile, reacting to your presence in real-time.

Key Features at a Glance

Feature The Upgrade
VR Support Play seated or standing with full, natural interaction.
Atmosphere Darker, realistic lighting and a disturbing, immersive soundscape.
Puzzles Rebuilt from scratch to favor hands-on VR gameplay.
Immersion Fear that isn’t just seen or heard, but felt in your very soul.

The Verdict: If you’re a fan of psychological dread and looking for a reason to finally use those VR controllers for something other than “Beat Saber,” Evil Inside VR is your invitation to the most uncomfortable housewarming party of the year.
